Blackadder’s Baldrick in Brisbane…..

Unexpectedly, I want to go home.  Australia home.  Hubby says, ‘You are home!’  I retort, ‘Germany is where I live, Australia is home.’

Book flight, jump on a plane, land in sunny, hot Brisbane with the mangoes falling on the ground.

Just prior to exiting Erlangen, I tell my husband it is time to introduce him to Blackadder.  I promise to purchase the entire collection.

Only one day into work at Kellies Antiques, my other shop in the Brisbane Arcade and who should I bump into?

Tony Robinson and Moira Drexler pictured in the Brisbane Arcade.

Speak of the devil.  What are the chances?

I tell him that my children love his travel documentaries and of course, we all loved him as Baldrick!  Tony was so approachable, such a nice man.  He didn’t mind that we snapped off a shot for the kids.  He laughed his head off when I told him that I had just promised the husband to introduce him to  the Blackadder Collection.

What did I do after we parted?  Made sure I got that collection I promised from the ABC Bookshop.

Thanks for being such an approachable guy and having a chat.  It certainly made my day.

Erlangen: Strange Creature Sighted.

Erlangen in Bavaria is a cute town with a population of about 100,000.  People that is.  And this strange creature, my son took photographs.

What is it?

Have you guessed it?

A crocodile sighting in Erlangen?

Wow, a baby crocodile. Sharp teeth this little creature has.....and real........

You know the old Australian song.....'Never smile at a crocodile'.........

For those of you who would like to meet the Crocodile, pop into Australiss.  Yes he is real but don’t worry, he has been a long time dead.

No worries.

Well, I started the day with decorating yet another of my Australia cakes…..just have to get my money’s worth for the cake tin……….dropped it off to the Franconian International School and greeted fellow cobbers! Lovely.

There’s a duck in the oven…….

Pluck a duck!

Wash it, Dry it.

Rub Sea salt into it.

Whack it in the oven……the slow combustion wood oven……170 degrees although hard to stick to this when cooking with wood…….

Make a Cherry sauce with cloves, port, balsamico and cherries.

Ta Da!  I will be making this again……

Roast Duck with Cherry Sauce......

Happy New Year everybody!

AROUND AND ROUND THE GARDEN, LOOKING FOR AN ICYCLE………..

Suddendly it was minus 5 degrees!  It has been too warm for a winter in Germany so far………don’t want guests to attend the Nürnberg Christmas markets in 19 degrees…………but hello, it was cold Sunday morning so I went for a walk around the garden and well, over the road to the natural swimming hole known as the ‘Wassertongrübe’ in Marloffstein.

Here are some images that were there to greet me in the morning, having a stroll in the sunshine……

Still at the waterhole in Marloffstein....too cold for a dip......

Mother nature is wonderful........

Someone moved as I moved.....a Hare.....Can you find him....he is there........

Knock on wood? Ice on wood...........

Skating away on the thin ice of the new day.........

The patterns in the ice puddles were amazing........

Is this an ice age? Damn, I forgot my gloves........

A bit of colour in the garden and food for the birds when it gets really cold.......

Thanks for visiting the blog.  Sorry I have been away so long……do you like the photos?

The Geelong Cats won the Australian Football League Grand Final today at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground).  We Aussies abroad are a long way from home but congratulations!

Great to hear have the sms messages from home rolling in…….

Go the Cats!

The strange this is that truly, I am not a big football fan although football is usually a big part of an Aussie’s life.  But somehow when you live abroad and you know that feeling back home and your own home team has reached that almighty grand final and you want your kids who were born out of Australia to know what is it like…..well then some love for a game of footy creeps in.  Go the cats.

Melbourne Cricket Ground at a regular match Geelong vs Hawthorn, 2010.

So from the SMS’s I received, I knew that Geelong were trailing 2 points at half time, and winning by seven points at three quarter time then won by so many points in the end!

CONGRATULATIONS GEELONG.   I will wear my Cat’s scarf and beanie in the next days around Erlangen, Germany………Well done and poor old Collingwood….better luck next time.

C’MON THE CATS!!
