Eucalyptus Leaves Fantastic For Colds and Coughs.

At Australiss, it has become quite a custom to add eucalyptus leaves on the outside of the gift.  For a short time of the year, the sprig of eucalyptus is fresh, then for the rest of the year, clients get a dried sprig of eucalyptus.

Eucalyptus leaves at Australiss in Erlangen. It is our trademark!

So after a long cold winter which we have just had, there are many coughs and colds around.  Here is a typical Australian bush remedy you can use so don’t throw the leaves away.  They are precious.

Fill up a medium sized saucepan of water and bring it to the boil.  Throw in some of the  leaves you got attached to your gift or go and order some eucalyptus from the florist.  (I can thoroughly recommend Wassermann Floristik, they are so friendly and helpful and sometimes you may find it at the Marktplatz.)  Simmer the water and leaf mixture for 5 to ten minutes.  Remove from heat.  Sit comfortably with your favourite towel over your head and breathe in through the nose, out through the mouth.  The mixture is antibacterial and really helps as an expectorant to bring up the mucus.

Stay healthy, Spring is on the way…….away with the Winter bugs and blues!

  2. The smell of eucalyptus leaves is heavenly. There are a couple of eucalyptus trees growing at Forte dei Marmi. Perhaps I should pinch a few leaves.

    • Take some leaves for emergencies. I use them also near Ruby’s bed to deter any fleas. Eucalyptus is amazing. And I like making a tea……no not in the billy, we do have a kettle here in Germany. Socceroos just beat Germany!!! I need a schnapps.
